How to get a test result

Please remember that if you have blood tests or other investigations, it is a shared responsibility to ensure that the results are followed up and no further action is planned. You should enquire about the results or make an appointment to follow up the investigations. Please phone for test results, preferably during the quieter part of the working day between 12.00pm and 3.00pm

The aproximate time intervals for standard tests are:

  • Blood tests – up to a week
  • X rays and ultrasound – 10 to 14 days
  • Cervical smear test – 2 weeks

The doctors will advise you if the interval is significantly different. To maintain confidentiality, results will only be given to patients in person or to parents if the patient is under 16.

Getting your test results

When you attend for a test of any kind you will be told how long you should expect to wait for the results. Please bear this in mind and only call the surgery once sufficient time has elapsed.

If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.

Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:

Our Reception staff are not qualified to comment on results therefore it is your responsibility to check them and make any necessary follow-up appointment with the Doctor.
