The NHS provides health care to most people free of charge, but does not pay for many medical examinations, reports and other private services. It is important to understand that GPs are self-employed and are contracted to provide NHS general medical services to their patients, exceptions are when GPs are asked to provide additional services that fall outside of their NHS contracts, so must be charged for to cover their costs.
Examples of private services are driving and pre-employment medicals, reports for third parties such as insurance companies and other similar services. Many of these are also liable for the addition of VAT.
All requests for services or medicals should be made in writing and handed in at Reception. In some circumstances there may be the requirement for a full examination so an appointment will need to be made.
Please note that fees for all services are payable in advance of their completion and are payable by debit card only.
All requests for non-NHS work can take up to 20 working days to be completed.
